Malachi

Faithlessness and Violation of the Marriage Covenant

2
Chapter 2
10 Do we not have one father? Do we not have one God who created us? Why do we betray each man his brother, to profane the covenant of our fathers? 11 Judah has betrayed, and an abomination has been done in Israel and in Jerusalem, for Judah has profaned the holy one of the LORD whom he loved, and married the daughter of a foreign god. 12 May the LORD cut off from the man who does it the wakeful one and the answerer from the tents of Jacob and the one presenting an offering to the LORD of Hosts. 13 And this you do a second time: covering the altar of the LORD with tears, with weeping and groaning, because he no longer turns to the offering or accepts it from your hand. 14 And you say, "On account of what?" On account of the LORD's testimony between you and the wife of your youth, whom you have betrayed—though she is your companion and the wife of your covenant. 15 And did not One make them, and a remnant of spirit was his? And what does the One seek? Seed of God. So guard yourselves in your spirit, and do not betray the wife of your youth. 16 For he hates sending away, says the LORD God of Israel, and he covers violence with his garment, says the LORD of Hosts. And guard yourselves in your spirit, and do not betray.
